DO YOU SELL ON

Then you need a digital scale

If you're a regular seller on eBay or other auction sites then you will definitely want a digital postal scale, it can save you a lot of hassle and will pay for itself quickly.

Many times I've said to myself...ok, if I just put this small gift for this auction winner in the box it won't make a difference...and then I find out when I reach the post office that the "small gift” pushed the weight over to the next pricing bracket! Either I mail it right away and pay more than expected or take the gift out and repack to mail it at a cheaper price.

Save yourself the hassle and buy a digital scale!

BUY THE BEST SCALE OUT THERE

What do I mean by “Best”? I mean the best value. You can pay hundreds of dollars for a scale that has tons of features that you won’t use. Here’s what to look for:.

  • TARE FEATURE:
Let’s say you’ve got an empty container and want to weigh only the contents of the container. Turn the scale ON, place the empty container on the scale, press the ON/TARE button. Fill the container with the item you’d like to weight, the scale will only show the weight of the stuff you’re putting in the container!

  • AC ADAPTER:
Do you have an outlet near your packing table where you can plug your digital scale in? May as well use that, it will save batteries. Buy this at the same time as your digital scale, it may be a real hassle if you try to find one later.

  • ACCEPTS BATTERIES:
Want to move your scale around? Maybe to a location where no outlet is available. Then get a scale that can also work with batteries, normally it’s a single 9V battery.

  • GRAM / OUNCE BUTTON:
By sliding a switch you can select Kilograms or Ounces.

  • MAILING TUBE SUPPORT:
To keep mailing tubes from rolling off the scale the top of the weighing surface is hinged. Just lift the flap and the tube is held securely.

  • AUTO OFF:
The scale will automatically turn off after a few minutes of inactivity. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a rush and forgot to turn my scale off. This feature will safe you electricity and/or batteries.

NOTES:

If you only sell jewelery that requires extreme accuracy then you’ll need to get a specialised scale. You can do a Google search for those in the space below.

Plan to spend at least US$40 for a jewelery scale. Remember that some of your customers may have scales as well and if you skimp and give the wrong weights those customers will not be happy.
